Your last review is your first impression.

A customer has found you, and two competitors. Now they're comparing. They're not reading your About page. They're scanning for proof: how many stars, how recent, do the photos look real, does the site work on their phone.

The 4 things

What a customer needs from you online.

In this order, and usually in under a minute on their phone. Each one has its own two-minute check.

4 kinds of proof

What "real business, good work" looks like on a phone.

In the order a customer notices them.

โญ Recent reviews

A new one every few weeks, not a burst in 2023.

Asked for at the right moment, from every customer, all year round. That's a system, not luck.

Example: Recent reviews
โ†ฉ๏ธ Replies

Reply to every review. It shows someone's home.

Thank the good ones by name, like this. It takes a minute, and the next customer reading it sees a business that pays attention. If a harder one ever lands, the same calm reply is the answer.

๐Ÿ“ท Real photos

Keep it real: your business, your team, last week's job.

A real picture tells the story. Google's own advice: an exterior photo "helps customers recognize your business when they visit."

๐Ÿ“ฑ A site that loads

A fast website that says what you do before they scroll wins.

54% check your website after reading good reviews. In a Google-commissioned study, a 0.1-second speed gain moved 21.6% more visitors on to the enquiry form.

Keeping all four current is a system. Saymore runs it for you.

Why it matters

Recent beats plenty.

Forty great reviews don't help if the newest one is from 2023.

Recency

Three months is the window most customers use.

Nearly three in four consumers look for reviews written in the last three months. An old wall of 5-star reviews makes a customer wonder whether you're still trading, or still as good. Irish shoppers are watching too: 64% say online reviews influence what they buy.

74%

say they look for reviews from the last three months

The star line

Four stars is where many draw the line. Replies are the proof.

In the same survey, 68% of consumers said they'd only use a business with four or more stars. You don't need a perfect 5.0; a few honest 4s are often more believable. And 80% say they're likely to use a business that replies to all its reviews. A calm reply to a bad one reassures the next customer more than the good ones do.

Found, too

Reviews get you seen, not just chosen.

Google says it plainly: "More reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking." A steady flow of new reviews helps you get found on the map as well as trusted once you're there.
